Currently Playing: An Introduction to Capercaillie

Had a really satisfying dinner - made some Thai stir-fried minced pork with basil, on steamed rice topped with a crispy fried egg.  Yum.

Off to finish up homework (for Tuesday - no classes tomorrow :) and do a bit of laundry.

feeling dumb.

The entire Religion class was really worried because Ms Krier wrote 4/8 on everyone's journal entries.  Turns out it was just the date... which made me feel relieved but really stupid at the same time.

On another note, the math test came back - did far better than expected, despite not having time to check.

Bored... so here's the Friday Five from April 12, 2002.  (I didn't like this week's questions.)

1. What is your favorite restaurant and why?

In Exeter, probably Sara Thai, though I don't find their dishes quite spicy enough.  In Hong Kong, there are far too many good restaurants to choose just one.  Kyoto Joe's for their seafood ramen, Lao Fan Dian for Shanghainese food, Bistro Manchu for northern Chinese food (including dumplings and the best beef noodle soup I've ever had).  Zen has good dim sum.  And I always have an appetite for Korean barbecue.

2. What fast food restaurant are you partial to?

In-N-Out has the best burgers.

3. What are your standards and rules for tipping?

Unless service charge is included, if the waiter has been pleasant and competent, maybe 5 - 10%.

4. Do you usually order an appetizer and/or dessert?

Only if other people order as well, otherwise I feel greedy.

5. What do you usually order to drink at a restaurant?

Water, orange juice or something special from that restaurant.

Tonight's ma yi shang shu was a bit too spicy (yes, just a bit)... but it was still far better than anything dining hall could have made.

Currently Playing: Pipa: From a Distance

Homework is done for tomorrow, except a journal entry for Religion.  Which could very well take until 11, since I must think very carefully about it.  Especially after I found out how I did on the first set... heh

PS Anybody up for a trip to the mall on Monday?

Currently Reading: Old School

It's sunny and just about warm enough not to have to wear a bulky jacket outside, which almost makes up for today's math test.  Let's just say it was the second hardest math test I've had all year (after Mr Kaminski's evil one with the problem about poppies)...ack.

Currently Reading: The Palace Thief: Stories

Not much happened in the morning.  Classes were ok, though English was somewhat dull, as we spent what seemed like twenty minutes discussing baseball.

We're watching our second film in French class - "Le Retour de Martin Guerre".  It looks like it will be good, but I'm not too sure I like the soundtrack.

I'm not sure what I'm going to do this afternoon.  I'll probably try to do some work, then go to the super walmart for the first time.  Yay for Wednesday afternoons free.

I never really understood daylight savings time either.

the stork has arrived.

I have new twin cousins!  It's the second set of twins in the family.  It'll be fun to see the new babies (boys, by the way) in LA on the way back home for summer break.

In other news, my computer has not been very cooperative lately.  I hope it doesn't have a virus.  I think I might though - been feeling a bit off-colour all day.  I think I'll try to sleep it off.

day one.

Survived the first day of classes, although G format physics coupled with jetlag was admittedly tough.  French Cinema looks set to be wonderful.  We're going to watch one film a week :)  I'm so glad I switched out of 449.

Back at school.

Schedule doesn't look too bad.  It's actually nearly exactly the same as last term:

A: Experience of Religion, Krier

BT: French Cinema, Dion

C: Math 411, Arnold

D: English, Kane

EFX: Fitness (ha!)

G: Physics

H: Free :)

...looks like I should be able to survive.

The last day in Hong Kong (Saturday) was good.  Went to the Rugby Sevens and watched some of the matches.  They weren't extremely exciting since it was still quite early in the tournament.  Many of the matches were ridiculous, for example Australia vs. Chinese Taipei (68-0).  Unfortunately, had to miss the finals as they were on Sunday.  England won again.  I was hoping for New Zealand, but they got knocked out by Argentina.  After the stadium got too full of drunken rugby fans, we went home and cooked lots of nice things to eat for family dinner:  pho noodles, Vietnamese vegetable rolls and sushi.  For dessert, we just dug out some lemon vodka sorbet and some profiteroles that I made earlier.  Might as well have fun cooking and eating before going back to dining hall, I thought.

Currently watching: Goodbye Lenin!

I bought the DVD of Goodbye Lenin! yesterday for HKD105.  With English subtitles.  I watched it last night and enjoyed the film much more as I could actually understand what was going on.
